A forest rescue in West Bengal ended with an elephant calf returning to its mother after a seven-hour effort to bring the separated pair together. The reunion, shared online by Indian Forest Service officer Parveen Kaswan, drew attention to the work of the Kurseong forest division staff who tracked down the mother.
According to Kaswan’s account, the mother and calf had fallen into a water tank. Rescuers managed to get both animals out, but the youngster became separated from its mother during the operation. The team then faced a second task: finding her and giving the calf a way back to its family.

The rescue photographs accompanying the report show people gathered around the young elephant as they assist it. A second frame shows the calf facing an adult elephant near a wooded area.
NDTV’s description of the video follows the final stages of the operation. Staff release the youngster, which begins moving toward the forest. An adult elephant comes into view among the trees, briefly retreats and then reappears with other members of the herd.
The mother approaches the calf and leads it away, ending the separation. Kaswan credited the Kurseong team with tracking her and said the reunion took seven hours.

The clip was shared on October 25, 2026. That is the date of the public account; the report does not separately establish when the animals fell into the tank. It also does not provide their ages, identify the individual elephants or offer a detailed veterinary assessment.
Responses described by NDTV focused on both the reunion and the people who made it possible. Viewers thanked the forest workers, praised their persistence and discussed the challenges of locating a separated animal in the wild.
The sequence documents two distinct parts of the intervention: getting the elephants out of the tank, then bringing the calf back to its mother. The final footage shows the youngster leaving with its family rather than remaining with the rescuers.
