Kennels might seem like simple places, but for many animals, they can be overwhelming environments. The confined spaces, frequent loud noises, and absence of familiar human companions often lead to feelings of anxiety and depression. This emotional toll not only affects their well-being but also reduces their chances of being adopted. The longer these animals remain in shelters, the more they lose hope.
Shelter staff work tirelessly to comfort the animals and make their stay as pleasant as possible, but there are limits to what they can achieve. Recognizing this, a unique solution emerged with the help of a dog named Cassian.
Cassian, a charming Boxer-mix, found his way to the Seattle Animal Shelter six weeks ago, eager to find a new family. His initial strategy was to capture the attention of potential adopters the old-fashioned way, by eagerly displaying his cuteness to everyone who passed his kennel. However, it turned out to be more challenging than he expected.

Shelter volunteer remarked in a TikTok video, “Cassian is super stressed in the shelter, and he doesn’t show that very well in his kennel.” His excitement often led him to jump at the door in an attempt to connect with visitors, but this behavior posed a risk of injury, so the staff had to cover his kennel door with a blanket. Unfortunately, this meant that many people passed by without noticing him.
To address this issue, a creative volunteer devised a clever plan. She had a large blanket printed with Cassian’s face to hang over his kennel, ensuring that his adorable presence would immediately greet all who walked by. However, before the blanket could be put to use, Cassian gained significant attention thanks to a viral TikTok video. As a result, a caring family decided to foster him.

But the specially crafted blanket remains, ready to accompany whoever decides to give Cassian a permanent home. On Cassian’s adoption page, the shelter describes him as “an enthusiastic and outgoing young boy looking forward to his next adventure. Cassian is petite but packs a ton of personality in a small package.”
For anyone interested in adding this bundle of joy to their home, more information is available on the Seattle Animal Shelter’s website. Visitors are encouraged to meet Cassian and maybe find their new best friend. You won’t regret the decision.
