Every time I see a dog chained to a small shelter, my heart aches. Sadly, for some dogs, this is a harsh reality they endure daily.
Countless dogs live their entire lives this way, never experiencing the joy of running freely or the warmth of a loving home. Galentine, a two-year-old Pit Bull, was one such dog, facing the cold, harsh winter, chained outside with only snow around her. But Galentine had a surprise hidden within her doghouse.
The Stray Rescue of St. Louis team, led by Donna Lochmann, is no stranger to rescuing animals in dire situations. However, when they discovered Galentine, they were taken aback. Peering from her small, snow-covered shelter, Galentine seemed to convey an urgent message.
To their amazement, Galentine was not alone. Inside the doghouse, she had recently given birth to six tiny puppies, all relying on her for survival.
Acting swiftly, Donna and her team gathered Galentine and her puppies and brought them to a warm, safe place for the first time in their lives. The Missouri rescue shared their joy online, saying, “Today, we had a huge win. We were able to get her and all of her babies!! Now they are warm for the first time in their whole lives.”
Named Cherish, Arrow, Amour, Adore, Serenade, and Flirt, the puppies quickly grew into healthy and energetic dogs, experiencing a warm environment and meals with their mother nearby.
Galentine also began to blossom. Her time in the shelter revealed her gentle and affectionate nature, craving attention and affection from her caregivers. “She just wants to climb in our laps and kiss our hands,” the rescue noted, appreciating her sweet spirit.
The rescue team was thrilled to know that Galentine would never return to a life of neglect. She was now safe and ready for a forever home. “She’s ready to be someone’s daughter. Never again will she be lonely, cold, frightened, or hungry,” the Stray Rescue team declared.
Meanwhile, Galentine’s puppies were sent to a foster home where they will receive care until they find permanent homes. Fortunately for Galentine, she didn’t wait long for a family to call her own.
Her heartwarming charm made her a favorite at the shelter. During an adoption event, a couple fell in love with her instantly and couldn’t wait to bring her home. Now, Galentine enjoys the life she always deserved, surrounded by a loving family and a cozy home, starting a new chapter filled with warmth and care.
