Fourteen-year-old Pumpkin, a charming senior cat, found himself at a Manhattan shelter after his aging owner, dealing with health issues, could no longer care for him.
Though parting with a beloved pet is always difficult, Pumpkin’s future looked bright thanks to dedicated rescuers.

At the shelter, volunteers at Timber’s Legacy discovered that Pumpkin, despite matted fur and several medical concerns, had a heart as sweet as pumpkin pie.
The organization expressed on Facebook that “this lovely cat deserves a warm, caring home for whatever time remains.”
Pumpkin’s previous owner, who also faced medical hardships, had to enter a care facility, leading to his surrender. According to Timber’s Legacy, the neglect of Pumpkin’s care was not intentional due to the owner’s own health struggles.
Volunteers were thrilled when Timber’s Legacy stepped in to bring Pumpkin to a safer place. Not only was he now in good hands, but many online supporters also pledged their assistance to the loving feline.
Despite his health challenges, Pumpkin remained gentle and affectionate. The rescue team shared that he suffered from dehydration, low weight, muscle loss, respiratory infection, ear problems, dental disease, and kidney issues.
Treatment began immediately to address these conditions before he was placed in foster care.
Pumpkin was set up with a “fantastic foster home” through Timber’s Legacy, ensuring he’d enjoy the best possible life in his twilight years. The volunteers were dedicated to providing Pumpkin with comfort and care.
Upon his visit to the veterinarian, Pumpkin’s loving nature shone through. “He’s a purr machine,” the team shared, noting he purred so loudly that it became a challenge to hear his heartbeat during exams.
In just a month’s time, Pumpkin’s health saw substantial improvement. He charmed his foster family and other pets, appearing quite the dapper gentleman without his tangled fur.
As he settled into his new environment, his kidney levels stabilized, thanks largely to regular meals and proper hydration.
The rescue expressed gratitude, stating, “Pumpkin has adjusted wonderfully in his foster home. He’s mingled with fellow four-legged residents and loves everyone!”
The rescue was thankful for the support they received, acknowledging that caring for animals like Pumpkin needs collective effort.
Though Pumpkin was initially expected to stay in a long-term foster home due to his advanced age, his recovery was promising.
With his orange coat now bright and fluffy, Timber’s Legacy ensured that his medical expenses were covered, thanks to kind-hearted donors.
