During her drive home, Kristin Erwin, the founder of Streethearts Project in Dayton, Texas, felt the urge to visit a known dog dumping area. Curious to see if any new dogs had been abandoned, she took a brief detour. As she turned onto the road, she noticed a solitary puppy desperately chasing a car, almost as if it was pleading for help.

Once the car sped off, the puppy spotted Erwin and started to follow her van. As soon as Erwin stopped, the puppy eagerly approached her vehicle, wagging its tail with hopeful excitement. Erwin spoke softly to the pup, who responded by running toward her with enthusiasm.

Naming the pup Shiloh, Erwin recalled, “She was jumping all over me, greeting me. When she poked her head in my van, I just gently picked her up and put her in the crate. We heavily foster, so luckily I always have a crate in my vehicle,” she shared with The Dodo.

After checking for any other abandoned puppies, Erwin decided to take Shiloh with her, feeling a sense of destiny in their encounter. The puppy was found to be underweight and infested with fleas, but thankfully, she was otherwise healthy. Erwin believed Shiloh had spent several days on the road, running after cars, hoping for someone to lend a helping hand.

When scanned for a microchip, Shiloh had none, nor did she have a collar or any tags. Erwin brought her back home to foster, and Shiloh quickly adapted to her new environment, making fast friends with Erwin’s other foster dogs.

With a playful and inquisitive nature typical of a puppy, Shiloh soon became the center of attention. “She doesn’t know her size and will try to fit her upper half in your lap. She’s a counter surfer, so gotta keep an eye on her. Overall she’s a really good, fun puppy,” Erwin noted.

Shiloh is now receiving all necessary care, including vaccinations, a microchip, and spay surgery, preparing her for adoption. She is available through the Texas Bark Squad, a rescue organization operating in Houston and East Texas.

Hopes are high that Shiloh will soon find a loving family who cherishes her as she deserves, giving her a happy future filled with endless affection.
