Bali Paws rescue workers have dedicated themselves to saving animals in distress, and witnessing the transformation of these rescued dogs in their new homes is incredibly rewarding for the team.
One day, a member of their team came across a small, hairless puppy in a dog house outside a property. Despite the team’s experience, they were shocked by the condition of this abandoned pup.
The puppy was suffering from a severe case of mange, which left her without fur and in discomfort. She also had an eye infection.
According to Desi, one of the rescue workers, the little dog had spent her early life confined to a cage and used for breeding. When she was no longer “cute and healthy,” her captors left her to fend for herself on the streets. Desi managed to coax the pup out of hiding and showered her with much-needed affection.
Desi described the pup’s reaction: “She was super calm the moment I grabbed her. I believe she knew I wouldn’t hurt her.”
They named her Lucy Ray, and once her medical problems were addressed, her true character began to shine. Her rescuers found her incredibly sweet and eager to cuddle.
Over the next seven weeks, Lucy Ray’s health improved, and she gained weight. She also learned to socialize with other dogs, walk on grass, and enjoy the comfort of a loving home.
This preparation paved the way for Bali Paws to find her a permanent home all the way in Centreville, Virginia.
Matt and Brianna fell in love with Lucy Ray the moment they saw her photos and heard her story. When she arrived, their affection for her was immediate and overwhelming.
“We were both madly in love with her,” Brianna said. “She was just so adorable, and we felt like she bonded with us instantly, as if she knew she was meant to be part of our family.”
Lucy Ray is now living a pampered life. According to her Instagram account, she has made the transition “from Bali streets to silky sheets,” and she couldn’t be happier.
Matt expressed how Lucy Ray shows her appreciation and love for them every day, and in return, their love for her grows stronger.
Brianna is amazed by how Lucy Ray has managed to forgive her past and move on with such a loving and trusting nature. “It’s miraculous that she’s so sweet and loving after everything she’s been through,” she said.
