Meet Duckphone, a charming cat with an unforgettable presence and some impressively large cheeks.
At just two years old, Duckphone has captured the hearts of many since being rescued as a stray and welcomed into the Cleveland Animal Protective League’s shelter.
Duckphone’s unique appearance causes people to stop and stare. “Everyone’s first reaction is usually ‘Wow, look at those cheeks,'” shared Hannah MacIntyre, a social media specialist at the shelter, with The Dodo.
Indeed, Duckphone has quickly become a head-turner.
His appeal goes beyond his striking looks. Despite spending part of his life on the streets, Duckphone greets everyone with friendliness and a love for attention, MacIntyre further explained.
It’s hard to resist giving him a pat, especially when he looks at you with those big, endearing cheeks.
The story behind Duckphone’s unusual name is equally charming. Inspired by a duck-shaped telephone seen on a TV show, the shelter’s team gave him this whimsical name.
“We name a lot of animals here, so sometimes the names are quite random,” MacIntyre noted.
While Duckphone was diagnosed with feline immunodeficiency virus during a routine vet checkup, it hasn’t dampened his spirits. “He remains a happy and otherwise healthy kitty,” assured MacIntyre.
Currently, Duckphone is enjoying a safe haven at the shelter, surrounded by caring staff. However, what he still longs for is a family and a permanent home where he and his oversized cheeks can truly belong.
