Meet Simba, an 11-year-old cat whose regal appearance has earned him comparisons to the Lion King. Despite having some special needs, Simba’s charm and sweet nature have won the hearts of many at the Oregon Humane Society in Portland.
Simba arrived at the shelter diagnosed with diabetes and neuropathy affecting all four paws, making it difficult for him to walk. He is currently on a special diet and receives insulin injections twice a day, but his affectionate personality remains unchanged.
Cara O’Neil from the Oregon Humane Society describes Simba as a “very sweet, mellow boy,” noting how captivated the shelter’s staff and volunteers are with him.

She adds that cats like Simba can show significant improvement in a home environment with plenty of encouragement to move around.
Recently, Simba received a heartfelt letter from a mysterious “Allergic Admirer.” The admirer penned a touching message on behalf of her sister, who was captivated by Simba’s story in the local news.
She praised Simba’s golden eyes and beautiful fur, expressing a deep desire to provide him a home due to their shared experience with diabetes.

Unfortunately, severe allergies make it impossible for her to adopt him, but she wanted Simba to know that he had won her admiration from afar. The letter concluded with wishes for Simba to find a loving home filled with happiness.
Staff at the shelter shared the letter with Simba, who seemed to approve with a contented smile. “Simba is receiving excellent care here,” Cara shared with Love Meow.
However, she emphasized how having a loving person to encourage exercise would further benefit him. Her own experience fostering a cat with similar issues, who later thrived and became more active, gives her hope for Simba’s transformation.

There is potential for diabetic cats like Simba to go into remission, potentially eliminating the need for insulin. However, these cats often stay longer at shelters because of their specific care needs.
Simba enjoys the attention from his human friends and waits patiently for the right person to come along and provide the love he deserves. His Allergic Admirer wishes that her letter will lead him to the forever home he needs.
Help spread Simba’s story in hopes of finding him a new family.
