Blind Kitten Finds Forever Family, Inspires with Her Joyful Journey and Unyielding Spirit

In Cape Town, South Africa, a compassionate local discovered a tiny abandoned kitten who had been born blind. Recognizing her vulnerability, the citizen brought her to the Domestic Animal Rescue Group (DARG).

This organization is dedicated to rescuing and caring for unwanted pets while ensuring they find loving homes.

One of the group’s volunteers, Holly Gilbert-Jones, decided to take the little kitten under her wing. Naming her June, Holly welcomed the kitten into her home and began fostering her.

Despite her disability, June quickly adapted to her environment, comfortably navigating Holly’s house just like any other cat.

As affectionate as she was, June spent several months in Holly’s care, patiently waiting for her forever home. DARG featured her charming story and photo on Facebook, hoping to connect her with the right family.

Due to her blindness, June required a very specific home. Ideally, her new family would have experience with blind pets and could provide a dog-free environment, as suggested by an animal behaviorist.

However, with proper introductions, she could potentially live with other cats.

By March 2018, June still hadn’t found a home. But fate changed when engaged couple Andrew Duff and Rebecca Warner stumbled upon her story on Facebook.

Convinced she was meant to be part of their family, they submitted an adoption application without having met her in person.

Upon approval, the couple adopted June on March 20th, marking the start of a new chapter. From the moment they picked her up, June bonded instantly, particularly with her new dad.

During the ride home, she nestled into Andrew’s arms and even draped herself around his neck, refusing to move.

Welcoming June wasn’t without its challenges. The couple’s two other cats, Leia and Leeloo, initially kept their distance from the brave newcomer.

The first few weeks included some hissing and avoidance, but this soon gave way to friendship. Before long, June, Leia, and Leeloo were inseparable, enjoying each other’s company.

Now settling into her new life, June takes joy in outdoor walks with her harness, embracing nature’s wonders. In April, DARG was thrilled to receive and share photos of June’s adventures from her adoptive parents.

June’s presence has enriched Andrew and Rebecca’s lives, inspiring them to view the world from a fresh perspective. Her ability to explore and revel in life despite her blindness serves as a powerful reminder to pause and appreciate every moment.
