This poor dog was so overwhelmed by fear that she avoided Megan and the team, despite their intentions to help. The rescuers were deeply moved by her plight and felt an urgent need to assist her in rebuilding her trust and healing her emotional scars.
Megan, with her extensive experience in dealing with dogs who have trust issues, recognized that this dog, who seemed to have suffered significantly in her past, required immediate care. The experience of encountering a dog in such distress only fueled Megan’s determination to help her recover and find happiness again.
Getting the leash on this one-year-old dog proved challenging as she was visibly terrified and trembling. However, Megan’s patience and warmth eventually helped her begin to calm down—a promising indication that the dog had a hopeful future ahead.
To encourage her healing, Megan decided to foster the dog, providing a safe space for her to realize that not all humans are harmful. With a fresh start, Megan named her Rue.
Once at Megan’s home, Rue received a hearty meal and water, which she accepted with apparent appreciation. Initially, Rue was hesitant to open up completely and accept affection. But in time, she came to understand that Megan meant her no harm, and she relaxed in the comfort of her new environment.
Gradually, Rue transformed from a timid soul into a joyful companion. She started to run around the house happily, express affection towards Megan, and embrace her new life filled with trust—a far cry from the life she once knew.
Although Megan felt fulfilled in helping Rue come out of her shell, her obligations with the rescue group meant she couldn’t keep Rue permanently. As a result, Megan shared Rue’s story on TikTok, inviting those interested in giving Rue a forever home to reach out to Love At First Mutt.
