For many dogs, life in a shelter can mean their true potential and hidden talents remain undiscovered. This was almost the case for a New York shelter dog until she narrowly escaped a grim fate, all thanks to the kind-hearted individuals who chose to intervene.
Vanessa and Ryan Marquette, moved by the story of a dog at risk for euthanasia, decided to take her in. They first fostered her, and within a few months, formally adopted her through North Country Pet Adoptions.
Vanessa shared with PEOPLE that the dog, whom they named Nola, was well-behaved from the start, although she speculated that being blind in one eye might have led others to overlook her.

Once alone due to her sibling’s adoption, Nola found her forever home with the Marquettes.
Settling into her new environment with ease, Nola soon revealed a surprising talent. Reports from her pet sitter suggested that Nola was capable of jumping over a tall fence, seemingly without effort.
At first, Vanessa and Ryan were skeptical, as she hadn’t shown any such inclination indoors. However, after moving to a new residence in Syracuse, New York, they received similar reports from neighbors about her extraordinary climbing abilities.
Curious to see this for themselves, the couple watched in amazement as Nola scaled a six-foot fence with the agility of a seasoned climber.

Vanessa managed to capture a picture, leaving Ryan equally astonished. Embracing Nola’s newfound skill, they began sharing videos of her climbs on Instagram, under the account @noseynola.
Nola’s climbing exploits quickly captured the attention of their community and the wider social media audience. Many speculated that she might be a Treeing Walker Coonhound, a theory confirmed by a DNA test.
It turned out Nola was indeed part Treeing Walker Coonhound, a breed known for its athleticism and climbing ability, explaining her remarkable talent.

While many of her canine companions, including a dog named Toby, are more content with keeping their paws on the ground, they cheer Nola on as she demonstrates her skills.
Beyond her online fame, Nola has become a symbol of hope and resilience, charming hearts and spreading an important message: every shelter dog deserves a chance to shine.
Nola’s story serves as an inspiring reminder that with love, patient care, and a nurturing environment, even a dog thought to be ordinary can reveal something truly extraordinary.
