While the process of rescuing animals can be difficult to witness, the joy of seeing them find their perfect family is immensely rewarding. Today, we share the touching story of a rescue dog whose bond with her adoptive mom is truly heartwarming.
Little Meira was discovered in an empty house, along with her mother and siblings. A team from a Minnesota shelter rescued them and suspected that the previous occupants had been running a puppy mill before abandoning the animals.
Meira’s mother was weak and struggling to care for her nine puppies, prompting the rescuers to quickly bring them all to safety.
The plight of these dogs caught the attention of many on social media. Greta, who was looking for a new pet, was captivated by a Facebook post from Pit Squad Rescue showcasing Meira and her litter.
“I saw a post on Pit Squad Rescue’s Facebook page with Meira and her eight siblings,” Greta told GeoBeats Animals.
Feeling a connection, Greta decided to visit the shelter. Upon her arrival, Meira darted towards her, curled up in her lap, and fell asleep. In that instant, Greta knew this was the puppy she had been searching for.
At her new home, Meira’s personality quickly shone through. She was sociable and enjoyed the company of other dogs and people. However, Meira found it difficult to cope with Greta’s absence.
To help Meira express herself, Greta purchased 12 talking buttons for her. Whenever Greta leaves, Meira repeatedly hits the “mom” button, showing just how much she longs for her presence.
Despite her discomfort when apart, the time Greta and Meira spend together is precious. Meira adores their daily walks and accompanies Greta everywhere, relishing each new adventure.
Playing with toys is another of Meira’s favorite pastimes, although she often ends up tearing them apart. Patiently, Greta repairs each toy under Meira’s watch, eagerly preparing for their next play session.
“I love her more than words can describe, and we are just so thankful she is in our life,” Greta expressed.
For both Greta and Meira, their instant connection was life-changing. Their story highlights the profound impact a dog can have on our lives when we open our hearts to them.
