When the Wright family from Wisconsin took in Jake, they believed he was an American Bulldog.
Although the shelter hadn’t given them detailed information about his breed, everything about Jake’s appearance matched their expectations of a Bulldog, from his robust physique to his broad head.
Maggie Wright, her brother Renae, and their family quickly formed a bond with Jake, who was lively and affectionate, just what they hoped for in a rescue dog.
Despite their certainty, curiosity lingered about his true lineage, prompting them to order a DNA test. They assumed it might reveal that Jake was a mix of breeds, likely confirming their belief of him being part Bulldog.

Maggie and Renae felt sure that at least some of their assumptions about Jake’s heritage would be validated by the test. However, the results were unexpected.
In a Reddit post titled “Whelp, we were wrong,” Maggie revealed that Jake was not an American Bulldog but a purebred American Pit Bull Terrier, a revelation that took the family by surprise.
The story of Jake’s breed identity quickly gained attention on social media, where many users commented on the understandable mix-up.

“His looks really do make it seem like he’s a Bulldog,” noted one person. Another exclaimed, “Wow, no American Bulldog? That’s incredible. He’s the most Bulldog-like Pit Bull I’ve seen.”
Despite the surprise about Jake’s breed, his lovable personality was unchanged and remained the focus for many. A user commented, “Those eyes are just so soulful. Jake looks like such a sweetheart.”
Jake’s gentle nature shone from the moment he was adopted from the Humane Society of Burnett County and joined the Wright family. The shift in his breed label didn’t alter his behavior, which was consistently kind and engaging.

Now comfortably adapted to family life, Jake enjoys being surrounded by those who care for him and spending time with other dogs.
Some even remarked on his resemblance to Chance from the movie Homeward Bound. Whether he is snuggling in his bed or playing with family members, Jake thrives on love and attention.

Understanding Jake’s true breed has not changed his status in the family; instead, the DNA results have deepened their affection for him.
To Maggie and Renae, Jake is much more than his breed. He is their cherished companion, always overflowing with love and joy. Though he turns out to be a Pit Bull by breed, Jake remains one hundred percent heart to his family.
