“I managed to help the dog. Take a look at its front leg,” I said, my voice filled with concern. The dog appeared bright and alert, which was promising, but the injury to its leg was troubling.
“The injury below doesn’t seem too bad, but the area above might be more severe,” I assessed aloud. “Thankfully, it can still move, so it’s likely not a serious fracture.”
The injured dog was discovered about 300 kilometers away. An eyewitness reported seeing it abandoned in a grassy field for several days, desperately needing medical care.
However, the witness couldn’t transport the dog, so Liu Li arranged for someone to bring it to us. “We received a call for help from Shangzhi,” Liu Li recounted. “A dog’s legs might have been crushed, and its owner just left it outside.”

When the dog finally arrived, our hearts ached. “Oh my, you poor thing!” Liu Li exclaimed, visibly shaken. “After being injured, the owner discarded it.
Its condition is terrible, with rotting flesh and exposed bones.” Dr. Song closely examined the dog, confirming the severe state of its injuries. “We will need to amputate,” he said quietly. “But first, we must stabilize its condition.”
Liu Li’s concern deepened as she asked, “Can the dog eat anything?” Dr. Song shook his head. “No, it can’t even stand up. It’s very young,” he stated, exasperated by the situation.
The dog’s condition was dire; it suffered from brain damage, had high intracranial pressure, and was severely dehydrated. “The paw cannot be saved,” concluded Dr. Song. “We need to administer anti-inflammatory medication and nutritional support.”

Disheartened by some pet owners’ lack of responsibility, Liu Li lamented, “I just don’t understand why people who own dogs can be so irresponsible.
Abandoning a pet when it’s sick or injured. Timely treatment could have prevented this.” Dr. Song agreed, stating that surgery had to wait until the dog’s condition improved.
“Is this a heart medication?” Liu Li asked as Dr. Song prepared the treatment. “Yes,” he responded. “It also helps to reduce intracranial pressure.”

Liu Li watched as the treatment commenced, whispering softly to the dog, “Stay strong and hold on. We’re going to help you.
Do you hear me? Okay?” Despite the grim situation, she remained hopeful that with proper care, the dog could recover and enjoy a new life filled with love and kindness.
